Anderson Family

Sarah Anderson Morton (mother of Eva Privett), was born on August 14, 1875. She was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Anderson (nee Schafer) and Jeremiah Anderson. She married James Washington Morton in August 25, 1897. She had a dislocated knee cap that was never attended to and left her somewhat disabled toward the end of her life. She passed away January 9, 1958.

Jeremiah Anderson (grandfather of Eva Privett) was born August 24, 1845 in Cassville, Missouri. He was the son of Anthony and Susan Evans. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Schafer. He joined the union forces in the Civil war and was wounded in the Battle of Wilson Creek, just outside of Springfield, MO. He returned home and homesteaded land on which they raised their family. Jeremiah and Mary Anderson had twelve (!) children: Sarah E. Anderson, Phillip Sampson Anderson, Martha M. Anderson, Marion W. Anderson, Alicia A. Anderson, Mary Caroline Anderson, Jeremiah Michael Anderson (Jr.), Clara A. Anderson, Jacob Anthony Anderson, Susan Alpha Anderson, James Anderson and Eva Delpha Anderson. He died on April 12, 1923 and is buried with his wife in Green Forest cemetery.

Ancestry.com civil war records list Jeremiah Anderson as a Private in Company D, 46th Infantry Regiment Missouri. 46th Infantry was under the command of Col. Robert W. Fyan, Lieut.-Col. Thomas A. Reed and Major Thomas K. Paul. The regiment was mustered into the United States service in September 1864, for a term of six months. The companies were mustered out at Springfield, MO, as their terms of enlistment expired the last company being mustered out on May 4, 1865.

Interestingly, there is another Jeremiah Anderson listed as fighting for the Confederacy as a Private with Company G, 8th Infantry Regiment Missouri. However, a Civil War pension record for a Jeremiah Anderson (with a wife named Mary E. Anderson) is listed with the 46th Infantry, meaning our Jeremiah was almost certainly the Union Private.
